Asthma is a very scary situation for both the child and his/her parents. Asthma is an inflammatory disorder of the airways that tighten the muscles surrounding the airways. This is a very dangerous condition due to restricted airflow. There are many triggers such as pet dander, dust, changes in weather, chemicals in the air, mold, pollen, tobacco smoke, etc. But why is it only certain people have asthma and not everyone since these triggers are everywhere??? Misalignment of the atlas can cause disturbances within the brainstem and respiratory center. The respiratory center is housed within the brainstem. If there is interference of the nerve flow coming in and out of the brainstem, the respiratory center can be affected negatively.
In the medical world, asthma is treated by two types of medications: long acting to prevent attacks and quick relief for use during attack. Most commonly, corticosteroids are used for either type. Corticosteroids can decrease immunity with prolonged usage. Ultimately, medications need to be used to prevent complications. HOWEVER, the best case scenario would be to keep the asthma attacks at bay even though the triggers are around us all the time. Specific Upper Cervical care can drastically improve lung function by allowing the respiratory center to work optimally.
